FASHIONAFRICANA :VERSAILLIES '73 event

This past Sunday March 3rd, 2013 I attended a VIP reception and screening for a new documentary made by filmmaker Ms. Deborah Riley Draper. The event was organized by Ms.  Demeatria Boccella, along with Brazilian Model Luana.
The viewing was held at Pittsburgh's August Wilson Center featuring special guests: Essence Magazine Editor-At-Large, MIKKI TAYLOR and Legendary Fashion Model PAT CLEVELAND. I was actually not expecting what I saw in the film I thought it would be more about  the African American Model's experience in the fashion industry from the 1970s to now, the racial bias the "Color Complex" things like that. However the Versailles 1973 was amazing in its' own right, it was about the American models and designers Vs the French designers and models of that time. There was a huge fashion show, France's portion was 2 hours long while the Americans was a mere half hour and was celebrated by the entire audience standing ovation! This was truly an event where African American models paved the way in France for  women of color, to know that they had a certain flare they brought to the other side of the world that was incredible and made the French see a different side of modeling!
